Adapting our interventions to the realities of sexually and gender-diverse individuals, their families, and friends
Sexually and gender-diverse individuals are more likely to experience stigma, arising from misconceptions and lack of understanding about their realities. Certain key moments in their lives, especially those involving self-discovery or self-revelation, starting a relationship or a family, socialization and ageing, can be particularly challenging given the potential lack of appropriate social support.
This course can help build relevant knowledge and skills and confidence to better support the needs of sexually and gender-diverse individuals, their families and friends. Collaboration between local community, public and parapublic organizations are encouraged in order to maximize the effectiveness, relevance and quality of services that are offered to 2S/LGBTQIA+ people, their loved ones and their communities. With this objective in mind, this course aligns with the principles set forth in the Politique québécoise de lutte contre l'homophobie and in the Programme national de santé publique du Québec.
This training program was made possible through financial support from the Bureau de lutte contre l’homophobie et la transphobie, as part of the Plan d’action de lutte contre l’homophobie et la transphobie.
