Healthy eating and active lifestyle have a large influence on health and well-being. These two determinants of health are linked to the risk of developing several major health problems, including obesity, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers and osteoporosis.

In terms of surveillance, prevention and control of infectious diseases, the Institute offers integrated programming to respond to emerging problems from a perspective of collective public health action against infectious risks.

This field brings together the activities carried out at the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) on the themes of water (drinking and recreational), chemical contamination of food and soil, as well as pesticides, consumer products, medicines and drugs.

Activities relating to air quality reflect the expertise developed in the indoor environment (particularly indoor air), air pollution, environmental noise and non-ionizing radiation (ultraviolet radiation, electromagnetic fields).
