Monitoring Attention Deficit Disorder with or Without Hyperactivity (ADHD) in Children and Young Adults in Québec: Medication Use

This report presents data on the prescription of medications for attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity (ADHD) taken from the Québec Integrated Chronic Disease Surveillance System (QICDSS). The results show a steady increase in the prescription of ADHD medications over time.

Substance-Related Disorders: Mortality Surveillance

The mortality rate in the population with SRDs (substancerelated disorders) decreased significantly over a 15-year period, from 32.4 per 1,000 in 2001-2002 to 21.6 per 1,000 in 2016-2017. A similar, but less pronounced, trend is also observable in the general population with no SRD, with the mortality rate dropping from 9.0 per 1,000 in 2001-2002 to 6.8 per 1,000 in 2016-2017.

Monitoring of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts during COVID-19 from the Emergency Management Information System

This report contributes to characterizing the potential impact of COVID-19 on suicidal behaviours in Quebec and on emergency department (ED) visits due to suicide attempts and suicidal ideation for the pre-pandemic (2014–2019) and the pandemic (2020–2021) periods. This is initiative was undertaken by the INSPQ as part of its monitoring activities.

Impact of comorbidities on the risk of death and hospitalization among confirmed cases of COVID-19 during the first months of the pandemic in Québec

This report aims to quantify the effect of comorbidities on the risk of death in confirmed COVID-19 cases. Specifically, its objectives are: 1) to identify comorbidities associated with the risk of death; 2) to evaluate the impact of the number of comorbidities on the risk of death according to living environment and age. In a secondary analysis, we looked at the impact of comorbidities on the risk of hospitalization.

Health services use and frailty among Québec seniors with a minor fracture

Principaux constats :

Among individuals aged 65 years and older having suffered a minor fracture, 13.6% were considered frail while 5.2% were robust. This study shows that frail elderly seniors use health care more extensively after experiencing a minor fracture. It is possible to characterize seniors’ frailty status at a population level using an adaptation of a frailty index in the healthcare administrative databases.

Portrait of Preterm and Small-for-Gestational-Age Birth by Linguistic Community in Québec, 1989 to 2010

This surveillance report examines changes from 1989–1992 to 2008–2010 in preterm and small-for-gestational-age birth rates in Québec for the general population and by mother’s first language. Rates based on selected sociodemographic characteristics (e.g., place of residence, material deprivation, and immigrant status) of mothers in each linguistic community are also presented.

Monitoring incidents and accidents related to medical device reprocessing in Quebec, 2016-2017

The frequency of adverse events (incidents and accidents) related to medical device reprocessing (MDR) is a concern for health care services. By definition, an incident means that a medical device breaches a recognized standard for MDR without having been used on a patient. An accident refers to any use on a patient of a medical device which does not meet a recognized standard for MDR, with that use potentially affecting the patient’s health status (INSPQ, 2014).
