    This report is the result of a mandate from the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) [Québec’s ministry of health and social services] to produce a knowledge synthesis focused on nine courses of action which pertain to “illicit” psychoactive substances and which have not been implemented, or have been implemented only on a limited scale or as a pilot project in Québec.

    The nine courses of action are:

    • Education programs for overdose prevention and management with naloxone;
    • Supervised consumption services;
    • Prison syringe exchange programs;
    • Low-threshold housing programs;

    The Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) [Québec’s public health institute] has been mandated by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) [Québec’s ministry of health and social services] to oversee the provincial surveillance of healthcare-associated (HA) infections. The Comité sur les infections nosocomiales du Québec (CINQ) [Québec healthcare-associated infections committee] and the Comité de surveillance provinciale des infections nosocomiales (SPIN) [Provincial committee for surveillance of healthcare-associated infections] have set up a structured surveillance program to support public health administrations and local infection prevention and control teams in general as well as specialized acute healthcare facilities.

    In 2014, 127 cases of Lyme disease were reported to public health authorities, including 66 cases that were acquired in Québec.

    During that same year, the Laboratoire de santé publique du Québec received 2,549 Ixodes scapularis ticks from Québec, primarily from the Montérégie, Montréal, Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec, Lanaudière, Laurentides and Estrie regions.

    Lastly, active surveillance in 2014 identified three new endemic sites for Lyme disease, all in Montérégie.
