Growth spurts in newborns

During growth spurts, your baby will feed more to meet their needs.

During growth spurts, their appetite will suddenly increase and they may want to be fed more often, sometimes every hour. Growth spurts generally last a few days and may occur at any time during the first few months. Some babies will have more growth spurts than others (see Baby’s growth).

Growth spurts occur most frequently around:

  • 7 to 10 days
  • 3 to 6 weeks
  • 3 to 4 months
